Mussel Lifter|A ECO-Responsive Design Project
This installation design, centred on “saving shell embryos,” reflects on the impact of human activity on fragile ecological systems by focusing on often-overlooked micro forms of life. Through materials, form, and spatial narrative, the project translates processes of fragility, disappearance, and regeneration into a perceptible experience, aiming to evoke emotional awareness of environmental issues. As a designer, I approach design not only as a problem-solving tool, but as a means of engaging with reality and expressing a critical, care-driven perspective.
-
The challenge of this project lies in breaking away from the traditional human-centered design philosophy of industrial design, focusing on things that are not usually considered in the design field, and helping natural organisms to survive better in urban environments through materials that are completely harmless to nature.
-
By utilizing ropes and solid wood and studying the survival habits of the target population, designs are created based on their behaviours. A narrative is then told through creative photographic mediums, thereby advocating for design that prioritizes elements beyond the human element.
-
This project made me realize the breadth of the field of industrial design. Yes, I can incorporate environmental and biological elements into the design process and extract and apply them in the future.
